The parties reserve all rights under any applicable laws or rules concerning use,
authenticity or admissibility in any litigation or proceeding of documents available
at the depository. In addition, all visitors should understand the following:
- The documents produced in the various Smoking and Health cases and available On-line
are a subset of a larger collection of documents. Therefore, numbering gaps often
appear between documents.
- The indices rely upon human coding of millions of documents. While efforts were made
to insure the indices are accurate and complete, discrepancies may occur.
- The available documents may contain copyrighted material whose use, including reproduction,
is governed by United States copyright law (Title 17, United States Code). The
law may permit the "fair use" of a copyrighted work, including the making
of a photocopy, "for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting,
teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship or research."
17 U.S.C. § 107. Persons obtaining, or later using, a copy of copyrighted material
in excess of "fair use" may become liable for copyright infringement.
Each person who obtains copies from the document archives or the Minnesota Tobacco
Document Depository is responsible for ensuring his or her compliance with applicable
copyright laws.
